Hill Congratulates Secretary Yellen, Examines the New Administration's Fiscal Agenda

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. French Hill (AR-02) issued the following statement after the confirmation of Janet Yellen to serve as the U.S. Secretary of Treasury:

“Congratulations to Janet Yellen for being confirmed as our nation’s 78th Secretary of Treasury. Her decades of expertise and accomplishments in both academics and at the Federal Reserve will serve well as she advises President Biden and our nation on the economic issues at hand. I enjoyed working with Secretary Yellen during her time as the Chair of the Federal Reserve and look forward to working with her to bolster our economy and provide aid to our small businesses, families, and the hard working men and women of our country.

“However, after listening to her testimony at her recent Senate confirmation hearing, I am concerned about several of the fiscal policies she is advocating for as we transition to the new administration. As vaccines are distributed and the recent $900 billion COVID-19 relief bill is implemented, we must ensure that any additional relief considered carefully targets industries and sectors that are the most desperate for immediate relief and utilize taxpayer resources appropriately instead of rushing to a near $2 trillion bill on top of the already $4 trillion we have authorized.

“While I do not agree with certain policies that Secretary Yellen has advocated, I look forward to working with her and her staff as well as the broader Biden Administration to cut wasteful government spending and support our families, workers, and businesses.”
