Important Update on SNAP/EBT Benefits
SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, provides critical support for Arkansas families who need help purchasing food.
If the Senate does not act soon to fund the government, SNAP benefits will end after November 1, leaving thousands of families unsure how they’ll afford groceries.
What Happened
With my support, the House passed a clean funding bill on September 19 to keep the government open and ensure that vital programs like SNAP have the resources they need to continue serving Arkansas families.
Unlike in the House, where a simple majority carries the day, the funding bill needs 60 votes in the Senate to pass. Unfortunately, 44 Senate Democrats have voted against it more than a dozen times, while only three have voted in favor. As a result, the bill continues to fall short, keeping the government shut down and putting programs like SNAP at risk.
What This Means for Arkansas
Families who rely on SNAP may experience benefit disruptions starting November 1, creating uncertainty for many across our state.
Need Food Help?
Until the Senate votes to reopen the government, it’s important that Arkansas families continue to have access to the resources they need. No one in Arkansas should go hungry.
If SNAP funding runs out, there are local food banks, community organizations, and churches that can help provide meals and groceries.
The Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Governor's Office has food bank and pantry listings here: Find food help in your area and here Arkansas Food Assistance Information
That page includes:
- Local food banks and pantries
- Community meal programs
- DHS offices that can give updates on your benefits
