WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at 9:00 AM/ET Congressman French Hill (AR-02) will be joined outside of the U.S. Capitol Building by Congressional leaders and special guests to honor 26th U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt and his remarkable contributions to conservation by planing a commemorative tree on the United States Capitol grounds.

President Theodore Roosevelt's Legacy of Conservation:

President Roosevelt had many lasting accomplishments that helped shape America at the turn of the 20th Century, most notably his impact on conservation. President Roosevelt's leadership led to the creation of the U.S. Forest Service in 1906 and produced the Antiquities Act of 1906, leading to the establishment of numerous national parks and monuments. As president, Roosevelt used his authority to establish 150 national forests, 51 federal bird reserves, four national game preserves, five national parks, 18 national monuments, and designated approximately 200 million acres as national forests, almost five times as much land as his predecessors combined. This commemorative tree will add to the Roosevelt legacy that continues to enrich the lives of countless outdoor enthusiasts every day.
