Congressman French Hill (AR-2) has joined Mayor Mark Stodola to celebrate the official announcement of the a $6.185 million TIGER grant awarded by the US Department of Transportation to the Little Rock Port Authority. The funds will be used to support the Little Rock Port Authority Growth Initiative to construct improvements to the existing slackwater harbor area, including a new dock with direct dock-to-rail capability; and add new rail storage.

The Port of Little Rock will be undergoing a $6.1 million expansion enabling it to more easily move freight between river barges and trains. The project will be funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, which Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola says will greatly expand the port's economic impact.

Last week, Saline County was awarded a $500,000 grant from the Arkansas State Department of Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) through the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP), a federal-aid program that assists in constructing non-motorized forms of transportation.

The U.S. House of Representatives voted Thursday (Dec. 3) to approve a $305 billion highway bill, with all four members of Arkansas’ House delegation voting yes. The 359-65 vote on HR 22 came after several hours of debate Thursday morning in the House.

The bill was supported by 178 Republicans and 181 Democrats, while 65 Republicans voted no in the House.
